Thorough inspection

Many wood-boring insects are mistakenly referred to as woodworm. However, there are many different wood-borers indigenous to this country and some vary from region to region. For instance, Death Watch Beetle can be found quite readily on the Isle of Wight due to the prolific use of oak in historic construction but is rarer in other regions. House Longhorn is common in an area South West of London (mainly Surrey) where special building regulations exist to protect structural timber and prevent further spread.

Wood-borers found commonly on the Island include:-

  • Common Furniture Beetle (Anobium punctatum)
  • Death Watch Beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum)
  • Wood-boring Weevil
  • Powder Post Beetle

We have also found some rarer wood-borers over the years in imported furniture, picture frames, bamboo screens among other things and even in the odd picnic basket!

Holes in timber and piles of bore dust are the first signs of infestation but ultimately structural damage to timbers can occur.

Hillbans can carry out a thorough inspection of your property and recommend suitable treatments to target your particular problem.
